An instrument for meaning
I’m interested in how a simple interaction can leave room for a person’s imagination. Here, the player composes by choosing: a word draws your attention, suggests an association, or takes you somewhere unexpected. Eight choices are enough to make something that feels particular to you.
The finished journey brings your words back as a sequence of marks and sounds. A short reading offers another way to look at the path. Its meaning is yours to decide.
Giving words a place
Behind each world is a map of qualities. Words have positions along dimensions such as openness, motion, and traces of human presence. These positions are authored judgments about how the words feel and relate to each other.
The system uses the distance and direction between words to offer possible next steps. It balances connection with surprise: a path needs enough continuity to hold together and enough difference to go somewhere. The same word values help shape the visual composition and sound.
Two worlds, two kinds of attention
Limestone
Stone, weather, living things, and traces of people. Mountains, strata, and open space meet resonant tones and small musical gestures. A journey can move from the weight of a boulder toward wind, memory, or absence.
Tideline
A shore shaped by movement, recurrence, release, and keeping. Watercolor imagery meets edited recordings of waves, rain, birds, shells, and glass. Its choices can carry a thought forward, return to something, or cross into another direction.
Authored worlds, personal paths
The vocabulary, relationships, visual motifs, and sound rules are built into each world. The experience runs in your browser, without calling an AI service to generate your poem. Your choices give the composition its shape; the system makes those relationships visible and audible.
The browser remembers your latest reading from each day so a new journey can be compared with an earlier one. There isn’t yet a way to browse or replay past readings. This history stays in this browser and isn’t synced to an account.
A space to keep exploring
This project brings together my interests in creative writing, software, and playful systems. It raises questions I want to keep exploring: what makes a sequence feel alive? Can a sound carry the feeling of a word? How does the same path change when you see it, hear it, or read it?
Each world has its own vocabulary and artistic rules, so those questions can lead to very different experiences.
